Veteran Affairs

The Chickasaw County Veterans’ Service Office provides support to veterans, widows of veterans, children of deceased or disabled veterans and parents who lost a son or daughter in military service.

We help these individuals apply for various federal and state benefits. We work WITH the federal Veterans Affairs, Iowa Department of Veteran Affairs and other veteran organizations to inform veterans about the benefits for which they are eligible.

We do NOT work for the Veterans Administration or the State of Iowa and have no direct influence on the granting of benefits.

• Military Retirement Services and information
• Iowa Department of Veteran Affairs Trust Fund
• General county relief
• Monthly coffee club (meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of every month)
• Community Outreach events

Chickasaw County has a partnership with Floyd County with our DAV Vehicles provided by the Iowa City DAV for transporting veterans to and from VA clinics and hospitals within the state. Currently, Chickasaw County has 5 active volunteer drivers. You can reach our van coordinator at (641) 426-0404.
